Amazing Race AU 2019 – Week 2 Recap

PRIZE: Bragging rights, $250,000 and the title of AMAZING RACE AUSTRALIA!

START LOCATION: Seoul, South Korea
END LOCATION: Hanoi, Vietnam

So, a few things I need to get off my chest. I’ve been tweeting every episode about how they don’t show the team times at the start of each leg… I’ve noticed they don’t even start at where the last Pit Stop was and they all seem to be around the same time of the day.. Hence, no start times! It’d be awesome to know how far between each team finished the previous leg… But TARAU won’t give us that!! 🙁 This probably goes in hand with the choppy editing. All of a sudden a team appears at a Detour and you didn’t even know it O_O Lastly, the prizes for finishing first are so non-existent why bother having any. Tom and Tyler have won EVERY leg and only one prize. It’s just plain weird. Anywhos, this week we had one non-elimination leg (totes thought it’d happen last week), which finally gave us a staggered task, separating the strong from the weak. We also saw a U-Turn, a birthday feast for one team-mate and a risky Fast Forward that paid off!

Team #1 – Tom & Tyler

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Tom
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Long Strides
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st (Avg 1.00)

Wow, so I only just realised Tyler Roos is son of AFL great, Paul Roos! The footy boys are doing so well, I can’t see them faulting anytime soon. When you come first that often, you’ve put a definite target on your back. Their alliance with Viv and Joey is still going strong and one you just see lasting the distance. The boys were given hints by the tiny Asians at the water puppet show, and they went from last to first! They had a great 3rd leg, despite what the ads were showing us with the dodgy taxi drivers at the beginning. They also dominated on Leg 4 and being so far in-front there was no point in U-Turning a team just for the sake of it. Unfortunately, zero prizes for coming first this week, but I’m calling it now, they’ll win bragging rights for most “Team #1″s this season!

Team #2 – Hayley & Mikayla

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Mikayla (HBD!)
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Long Strides
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 2nd (Avg 3.25)

Watch out tiny Asians, S2S are creeping up as my fave team :O The sisters had a decent start in Leg 3, seeing the water puppet tags almost immediately, and they completed the snail Detour first. This meant Mikayla was first to start the Roadblock; eventually eating 22 packets of chili rice O_O HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Hahaha. Whilst Mikayla sat in misery, she saw many other teams getting lucky with opening their first packet with the coin. Just crazy!! I have mad respect for the girl, sitting through that and just pushing through. SHE DUG DEEP. Leg 4 saw the sisters absolutely smash the stilts Detour! Well, more Hayley, but the good outweighed the bad. The girls have showed tenacity and a never-say-die attitude needed for this Race. Speaking of attitude, how about that sassiness towards Adrienne for turning those scales around?! Hahaha classic. I’m going for a Top 5 finish! <3

Team #3 – Sid & Ash

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Sid
DETOUR 1: Escargot & Make Boat Go (U-turned by Deadly Duo)
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 9th, 7th, 6th, 3rd (Avg 6.25)

Holy shit, how did this happen?! Are the Influencers really that awesome?! Pure luck? Sid and Ash were extremely pissed when they were U-Turned; it was great. As always, they think they’re being targeted because they’re threats. No pumpkins, no. Fortunately for them, they aren’t the weakest team in the lot. They also continued to make silly mistakes over both legs. I’m not sure why they keep walking down when they’re meant to go up and vice versa! The best decision the Influencers have made so far was picking the mask painting Detour. They got a head start and were able to finish just behind the stilt masters. Yes, they came 3rd, but I don’t see them as the team to beat… Still a middle of the pack team at best! I may be eating my words in following weeks. P.S. Ash is a babe! 😉

Team #4 – Jasmin & Jerome

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Jerome
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Long Strides
FAST FORWARD: Success!
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 6th, 5th, 4th, 4th (Avg 4.75)

Jasmin and Jerome, I bow down to you!! What a bunch of go-getters and risk-takers. They had a great week U-turning the Influencers for being turds, and there was a lovely moment between Jasmin and a cute Vietnamese kid, which pulled on Jerome’s heart strings while he was eating chili packets. Leg 4 showed us what the couple are really made of, deciding to (after failing the stilts Detour) take on the Fast Forward, which Tim and Rod gave up on. Jasmin is an actual rope tying master. And with a blackeye, her and Jerome snaked their way to the FF finish line. You made it look easy, guys! Another strong finish in 4th, if they had switched to the FF earlier, I’m sure they would have come 3rd. Watch out teams, this Deadly Duo is creeping up behind you!

Team #5 – Tim & Rod

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Rod
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes (failed attempt at Long Strides)
FAST FORWARD: Fail!
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 4th, 4th, 3rd, 5th (Avg 4.00)

Oh Rod and Tim, their alliance with the Influencers is an interesting choice! So far it actually has been a positive, as they wouldn’t have done as well this week without the help of Sid and Ash. They also seem like a stronger team, so being in an alliance with a ‘weaker’ one doesn’t hurt! For such a dynamic duo, I don’t see them as standouts to win the Race (sorry boys :/) and I was most surprised at them not being able to complete the Fast Forward. However, they are still a formidable team and for sure have plenty of legs left in them. I’d be happy if my gay babies took it to the end!

Team #6 – Chris & Adrienne

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Chris
DETOUR 1: Make Boat Go
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 7th, 6th, 8th, 6th (Avg 6.75)

“CHEATERS! You’re all cheaters!!” Bahahahaha. Oh Adrienne. She’s a laugh isn’t she. 😛 This weeks episodes showed us her true colours and how Chris deals with her on a daily basis. It was leg 4 where Adrienne admitted her and Chris have terrible communication, that she is bossy (and loses her shit almost instantly)! Adrienne is a firie, and is probably used to telling her team what to do. But, as Chris said, this isn’t the fire station! When it came to bundling sticks, what a HOT MESS. Even if Chris wanted to pipe up saying it was wrong, he couldn’t :/ She went off her nut when other teams turned the scales around, because it “wasn’t in the rules!!” LOL, OKAY. The madness didn’t stop here. Adrienne had a go at Chris painting his mask wrong, then they had an argument finding the correct statues. It was scary. Ultimately, I have no idea how they scraped in at 6th. They definitely make interesting TV, but I don’t see them lasting another 2 legs! It’s hard to find any redeeming qualities in Adrienne from the edit has shown so far. Unfair? I think so. A villainess is born.

Team #7 – Viv & Joey

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Viv
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 7th (Avg 3.25)

No math fails here this week, only fail cab drivers!! Viv and Joey had yet another great third leg, with Joey’s ability to speak/read Vietnamese being most helpful, especially at the water puppet show. Their alliance with the footy boys remained strong and I feel like it’s a double edge sword; they just have to ensure they keep up with the footy boys as much as they can! Leg 4 really dragged the tiny Asians down, not sure how it happened, but their cab driver had them completely lost 🙁 This caused them to arrive last at pretty much every task on the leg. I mean, even Chris and Adrienne beat them! Ouch. Haha. I’m hoping this 7th place is a one off; every team goes through a bad leg… Go Viv and Joey!!

Team #8 – Femi & Nick

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Femi
DETOUR 1: Escargot
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 5th, 9th, 7th, 8th (Avg 7.25)

Oh Femi and Nick, how are you still on the Race?! Hahaha. A very much back of the pack team, the nurses keep striving and pushing their way through, knowing they are near last. They really struggled at the water puppet show and mask painting. I honestly don’t see how they last much longer, but you just never know I guess. We’ve seen teams go from last to first, but ultimately going home soon after. Femi and Nick, hang in there!! At least we know they’re still in it until they have to use a compass 😉

Team #9 – Rowah & Amani

ROADBLOCK 1: Who’s Feeling Lucky? – Amani
DETOUR 1: Make Boat Go
DETOUR 2: Short Strokes
PLACINGS (Ep 1-4): 8th, 8th, 9th, 9th (Avg 8.50)

Aww, my Lebanese honeys! Rowah and Amani have been playing from the bottom the whole Race and I really feel for them. Nevertheless, they don’t show it if they’re feeling bummed out, they’re always so positive and happy! Except when Amani had to eat 50 packets of chili rice… :/ The ladies Speed Bump in leg 4 pretty much was the nail in the coffin for their time on the Race 🙁 Otherwise, they didn’t do much wrong! I’m even making the call that if they didn’t have a Speed Bump the nurses would probably be going home! As I mentioned last week, they could pick up the pace more, and looking at how they placed over 4 legs, their time really was running out. Overall, Rowah and Amani were a fun team to watch and I’m sad we won’t get to see more of them <3
