The Bachelorette Australia S7 – Finale Week Recap

THE FINAL 3 DATES:

Kicking off the penultimate episode with the boring date of the night, Darvid shows Brooke his outdoorsy interests starting with a chilled kayaking venture. Something Brooke loves. Something I love! Darvid, you had me at quad bike. ❤️ Brooke was all googoo gaga for the Prince and you just know it’s going to be an uphill battle for the ladies. Come the spa bath and Brooke’s ogling at Darvid’s 3pack. They are looking comfortable AF until Brooke questions Darvid’s hesitation to move locations for her because blah blah work, blah blah sister’s preggas. But there’s an amicable sense in the air that they are maybe both willing to compromise. Not a huge red flag, he assures her it’s something to work on. Cue all the cuddles and kisses we don’t need to see. But at the same time I’m loving it.

Next up is Jamie-Lee who’s put her Gucci couture aside and is glamping it up for her future wife. It’s a nice medium Jamie-Lee has found, aware that Brooke loves the outdoors, while she enjoys the finer things in life. Brooke is truly impressed. Jamie-Lee asks producers for a Gucci tent which both of them have no idea how to put up. A lot of sexual innuendos ensue and it’s cringe as all hell! Haha. But it’s obvious Jamie-Lee is all in for Brooke. She will move the Earth for Brooke. She will give her kidney for Brooke. And will birth 1-3 kids for her. They seem to want the same things. BUT is the love one-sided? Beside the campfire Jamie-Lee finally opens up and tells Brooke that she’s in love with her. HALLELUJAH. All the gays are singing praises. And I admit, Brooke’s reaction is a little awkward… Albeit we know she cannot say it back. But it ends with a makeout sesh, so all is good.

Last date is with Holly and I prepared myself for waterworks. Brooke meets Holly at the Sydney Dance Company where she’s about to experience her first ballet performance. Brooke is entranced, but also feeling the pressure of their impending discussions. From the edit it’s evident Brooke is really, really, really into Holly and is trying so hard to mend their relationship. But when the elephant enters the room (KIDS TALK) it all breaks down. Holly is not budging and can’t see herself compromising her own needs for Brooke’s; which is totally valid! Both women are strong-minded and know what they want. Sometimes love just isn’t enough. Brooke gets super emotional and that can point only to the fact she’s in love with Holly. You don’t get angry at someone you don’t have feelings for. Again, Holly says she can’t see herself in WA at all and Brooke is at a complete lost. I admire Holly being true to herself though. To keep going with Brooke would just be leading her on. After many tears, the women mutually part ways. I’d like to believe Holly would have won if it weren’t for the non-negotiables. Sadface.

On to the finale. Before I write about Darvid and Jamie-Lee’s journey, I just want to touch on Brooke’s journey for love and the stigma surrounding her being a bi/pansexual woman. I was equally excited and scared for Brooke as people wouldn’t be happy with who she chose, man or woman. And unfortunately, some people have not learned anything from Brooke. The homophobic and especially biphobic comments online are gross and invalidates bi/pansexual peeps. NOT COOL. Brooke has stayed true to herself and I reckon she had quite a bit of pull at what the network aired and how things were portrayed. Ratings aside, this season sets the precedent for queer bachie series in future!

THE FINAL 2:

Darvid:
Darvid made a great first impression with Abbie and even with the unsure comments about moving interstate we all knew he would do it. Abbie was a fan. Amy grilling both Darvid and Jamie Lee on whether they knew what Aboriginal land they live on posed great importance for Brooke (and in general) and I was shocked at the lack of knowledge they had. In the past 2 years a lot of places, companies, TV shows, sporting events have begun with a Welcome to Country and mentioned the land we live on depending on state. I wasn’t completely shocked they didn’t know though. On to the Persian Prince’s win. There was no doubt Darvid swept Brooke off her feet very early on and when he told her he loved her, the reaction was palpable. She broke down in happy tears admitting she was in love with him too. This whole experience she’s spoken about having someone stable and safe with in her life, who knows what they want and is willing to compromise for each other. Brooke keeps saying when she’s with him she’s never felt that way before. Ultimately her heart lies with Darvid and we can’t deny the fact. We will just forget that uncomfortable tantric sex date… WTF!? Also, can we just appreciate Brooke and Darvid both being POCs. AMAZING <3

Jamie-Lee:
Oh what could have been. Jamie-Lee entered the final dates with confidence, even though I think she knew her journey was ending here. The meetings with Amy and Abbie put Jamie-Lee on edge and she struggled to answer the questions on Brooke’s indigenous background, which was a shame having known Brooke for so long. Things went well on their final date, though you could tell Brooke’s heart wasn’t fully in it. Some may say she led Jamie-Lee on, but I do believe she thought feelings were there. The connection with Darvid was just stronger. So, as someone who would have loved to see Jamie-Lee (or a woman) win Brooke’s heart, for not only selfish reasons, but also how incredible it would be on prime-time TV, I’m sure she will find that special someone as she seems like an amazingly, generous person. We all felt heartbroken in those final moments, not gonna lie. It hurt. It looked like it hurt for Brooke as well as she fell to the ground in tears. Jamie-Lee took the news so eloquently with grace. What a woman.

To conclude, I’d like to congratulate Brooke on finding her #1 in Darvid; Holly and Millie for finding love post-show (check their Instagrams!); and Carissa and Bec on their relationship (but not the queerbaiting. Eww). Until the next queer Bachie series, Lyndz out. LOVE IS LOVE, Y’ALL!! <3
