Amazing Race Canada S5 – Episode 10 Recap – We’re off to… The Zoo?!

Ahhh, an Alpaca Zoo!

PRIZE: A Chevy car each, a trip for two around the world, $250,000, and the title of TARC!

START LOCATION: Regina, Saskatchewan.
END LOCATION: Sault Ste Marie, Ontario!

Final Face Off ahead! But first, I’ve been having to Google the last two locations because, after the Regina thing, I was so confused to which “ZOO” Jon Monty was talking about at the start of the episode. Little did I know that Sault Ste Marie is French and pronounced “Soo Saint Marie”, and that it crosses the US-Canada border! Thanks Google! The Amazing Race Canada brings the goods again with a new sport I’ve never seen in Crokicurling, and we see a horrific Roadblock affecting the person who is NOT counting cockroaches. Last year, teams had to eat bugs in Vietnam… Would you rather eat them, or have your head stuck in a box full of them? For over an hour?!

Kristeph Q&A: Who would stick their head in a roach box ? (My guess: Steph)

And without further ado, welcome to the Final 3… !!!

Team #1 – Sam & Paul

SamPaul (2)

DETOUR: Alpac-It
ROADBLOCK: Counting cockroaches – Sam
Placings: 4th, 3rd, 4th, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st

OK, seriously, need I say more about Sam and Paul? It’s their fourth #1 in a row and it truly is their Race to lose now. But as we know, anything can happen in the final leg. This week, the boys got a little lost on the way to the Canada 150 Train Challenge and arrived last, but as they always do, ended up finishing it first. Bloody oath these guys are too good!! Next up was the Detour and I’m so happy they chose the cute Alpacas. Paul definitely had some weird alpaca sonar going as they seemed to do everything he wanted.

Paul, the Alpaca Whisperer!

Sam and Paul arrive first at the season’s final FACE OFF. Surprising to them, they face Korey and Ivana. And probably more surprising, they were beat! But nothing brings these boys down!! Poor Paul gets stuck with the Roach Box and he doesn’t flinch too much. Hehe.

“There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home!”

Lucky for Paul, Sam had a strategy in counting the cockroaches, from the larger, slower ones to the smaller, faster ones. Very clever! 🙂 This propels the boys back into first place as they rush to the Pit Stop. Very impressive!! I am tipping Sam and Paul to be the winners of the season, but I think maybe Korey and Ivana (who tend to smash out most challenges, once they get there) could give them a run for their money. Good luck in the finale, boys! <3

NUMBER ONE!!!

Team #2 – Korey & Ivana

KoreyIvana (2)

DETOUR: I’ll Cast It
ROADBLOCK: Counting cockroaches – Ivana
Placings: 2nd, 8th, 2nd, 6th, 6th, 3rd, 5th, 4th, 4th

Aww shit yeah, Team Panda are bringing it home in the last few legs!!

I heart dancing Korey.

And somehow they didn’t get lost this week! Hallelujah!! Team Panda decide to go fishing on their Detour, which happens to be one of Korey’s fave past times. They smash through this one in no time, and Korey even has time to flirt with the girls 😛

Oh Korey 😉

Team Panda are flying through this episode with an awesome win against Sam and Paul in the Face Off. Ivana ends up knocking out two of the boys rocks.. even though I don’t think she even knew that was gonna happen. Haha!

Crokicurl Queen!

The Roadblock is where Korey and Ivana lost their chance to make their first #1!!

All of us watching at home O_O

Whilst Korey stays composed, for over an hour (poor guy), with his cockroach friends, Ivana struggles to count them correctly. ARGH. She ends up just guessing the numbers in the end. Ivana regroups and gets the job done! They finish strongly in second place and I think they’ll now be a good shot at winning this. But as I mentioned last week, if they don’t get lost! C’mon Team Panda!! 😀

When you’re frustrated and leave your mate hanging…

Team #3 – Kenneth & Ryan

KennethRyan (2)

DETOUR: Alpac-It
ROADBLOCK: Counting cockroaches – Kenneth
Placings: 1st, 5th, 6th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd

GIVEERRRRRRR. Omg how cute were the kiddies rooting “GIVE’R, GIVE’R!!” this episode?! Almost as cute as the alpacas 😉 Unfortunately the boys came unstuck with their furry friends and it took them about ten frustrating attempts at completing the Detour. It makes you think whether choosing challenges involving animals is a wise decision… No matter how cute they are!

“Al-back-a way from you, Ryan!”

The boys catch up at the Face Off against Karen and Bert where they took the risk to nab a quick 20 points by landing their curling rock in the centre target. Great move, Ryan!

GIVERRRR SCOORRRRRES!!!

After three 2nd places in a row, the boys come in third and I honestly have no idea how they’ll go in the Final Leg. It really depends on what the challenges are. They’ve shown they are really good at the physical and sport-related type challenges, but not so much the intellectual/non-visual ones (e.g. Helipad Maths, Celine didn’t write O Canada). The one thing they’ve shown as their greatest strength on the Race is their positive energy; they never give up! Give’r, show em what you’ve got!!

Team #4 – Karen & Bert

KarenBert (2)

DETOUR: I’ll Cast It
ROADBLOCK: Counting cockroaches – Karen
Placings: 6th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 3rd

The thing I’ll miss most from this team is Karen’s dancing!! Hehe. She’s got the moves. xD

Werk, werk!

On this leg they didn’t really struggle too much, until the Crokicurl where they had a good crack at beating Team Give’r! Waiting for the egg timer would be so frustrating. Then came the dreaded Roach Box… POOR BERT!! You could see he was absolutely in terror as the roaches were dropped on his head. He was no coping at all. And there wasn’t much he could do but wait for Karen to count them all.

“I’m a D-grade Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here!!!”

With all the teams finished with the Roadblock, Karen was left to pick up the pieces and the couple had a good cry and hug not wanting to blame each other for their loss.

Alas, their middle of the road finishes came to an end. Karen and Bert were true fighters and underdogs of the season and it was amazing seeing them finish in the Top 4! They must be so proud, and even more so their kiddies! 🙂 They hung in there against the much younger and physically stronger teams and I give them all the credit they deserve for making it this far. They ticked off some TARC boxes by using an Express Pass, and survived a non-elimination leg and successfully made it through even after completing a Speed Bump. Congrats guys, a well-earned finish! #RESPECT

It’s OK guys!! So sweet <3

My Final Leg Placings: #1 Sam and Paul, #2 Korey and Ivana (expecting some sneaky moves, unless they get lost then they’ll be #3), and #3 Kenneth and Ryan. Sam and Paul, and Korey and Ivana have both had personal montages throughout the Race, where Kenneth and Ryan really haven’t. That’s me reading into the edit, I know, I can’t help it 😉
