Amazing Race Canada S5 – Episode 8 Recap – Punch, Drunk, Race!

PRIZE: A Chevy car each, a trip for two around the world, $250,000, and the title of TARC!

START LOCATION: Western Newfoundland.
END LOCATION: Panama City, Republic of Panama!

This week we headed to our second overseas leg of the season, Panama! It was another great leg filled with HUNDREDS of Panamanian women in colourful shirts, we saw half the teams left drunk on a Detour (amiright that Kristeph would’ve kicked ass on this beer challenge? But then I’d also want to see them do drunk boxing after. Hahaha :P), and one of the hardest challenges I’ve seen – marching band choreography! And it was the last non-elimination leg of the Race (thank goodness). So it’s all GAME ON from here! To the recap…

Team #1 – Sam & Paul

SamPaul (2)

DETOUR: Down for the Count” (after failed “Up for a Drink”)
ROADBLOCK: Matching Molas – Paul
Placings: 4th, 3rd, 4th, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st

HEYYY boys!! Two first places in a row. These guys are on FIRE.

I think Sam and Paul are now the team to beat for the title! They have shown they are an all-rounder team with a mix of physical, mental and street smarts this season so far. I found it hilarious that they were obviously getting drunk at the craft beer Detour and after so many gulps, all the beers would start tasting the same in an inebriated state. Lucky they switched! They know their limits.

Uhh, so drunk right now… REFILL PLEASE!

And then, even funnier, Paul seemed to be SO out of it at the boxing Detour he was just hitting left, right and centre! It looked as if he had no idea where he was, hehe.

On to the marching band, and who would’ve thought they’d be so damn good, they get it on their first try! Everything lined up for the boys from this point onward as they made their way to the CORRECT Panama sign Pit Stop. Sam and Paul HAVE to make the Top 3 now… I’d be most surprised if they don’t!

Team #2 – Kenneth & Ryan

KennethRyan (2)

DETOUR: “Down for the Count” (after failed “Up for a Drink”)
ROADBLOCK: Matching Molas – Ryan
Placings: 1st, 5th, 6th, 4th, 4th, 5th, 2nd

I do wonder if these would have left the Craft Beer Detour if the two teams before them hadn’t. They totally look like a couple of guys who would just keep drinking, and drinking, and drinking. Hahaha. Team Giver do seem to struggle at certain challenge, and Ryan couldn’t even remember how many butterflies were on the shirt he had to find on the streets. Anyhow, they continue to plough their way through the Race and after being middle of the pack the whole leg somehow ended up in second place again! I just have a feeling their luck will run out soon and they will be pipped at the post at the last hurdle. They’ve been very fun to watch though 🙂

Team #3 – Adam & Andrea

AdamAndrea (2)

DETOUR: “Down for the Count” (after failed “Up for a Drink”)
ROADBLOCK: Matching Molas – Adam
Placings: 3rd, 7th, 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 1st, 3rd

So, obviously Adam will never be cast on Masterchef.

These two are just so much fun. Does anyone else just wanna be friends with them? Haha. Adam and Andrea also came unstuck on the beers and switched Detours. And for the best, coz I’ve never seen a professional boxer react this way after winning a fight!

Watchout, Dre’s in the ring!!

Adam and Andrea continue to be a strong team and come third for the fifth time. I now expect to see them in Top 3. Don’t let us down, guys! 😉

Team #4 – Korey & Ivana

KoreyIvana (2)

DETOUR: “Down for the Count”
ROADBLOCK: Matching Molas – Korey
Placings: 2nd, 8th, 2nd, 6th, 6th, 3rd, 5th

Great start to the leg for Team Panda! Korey found his Panamanian mama quickly, and she seemed very fond of him. Hehehe.

She found her hunky boytoy!

Korey and Ivana then chose the perfect Detour for them, boxing! It was no surprise they were going to punch this one out quickly! First team to TKO and finish the Detour, Ivana looked like she was having a ball.

This chick is badass <3

Unfortunately, their luck ran out this leg when they arrived at the Marching Band. Seriously, people enjoy this stuff. Haha. And Ivana thought it was going to be a breeze…

Spoke too soon…

And, as I say every week, their cabbie luck continues with yet again another taking them to the wrong location. I know it was a toss up with arriving at the correct Panama sign, but this one really left them in the lurch. They were meant to be TEAM #2 DAMMIT!! I can’t believe this run of bad luck made them drop two spots. I just hope it’s not foreshadowing what’s to come. I really do think it will be a toss up between Team Panda and Giver making the Top 3. And I really hope these PTs can make that spot!

Team #5 – Karen & Bert

KarenBert (2)

DETOUR: “Down for the Count”
ROADBLOCK: Matching Molas – Karen
Placings: 6th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 5th, 4th, 4th

Another fifth place for the only parents on the Race. How lovely Karen got to spend Mothers Day racing, despite not being with her kids. I did love how she shared their kiddie photos with the other teams though, that was cute. Haha. Poor Karen at the Roadblock though. It’s so easy for fans like us to say “READ YOUR CLUE”, because we don’t experience the frustration and pressure on the Race. But still, she needed to read the clue properly.

It’s OK, she found her mola!

Karen and Bert completed the other challenges pretty quickly and unfortunately they were sent to the wrong Panama sign too! Phew. Haha. They are a very intelligent team and I commend them for making it this far. Next week will be very telling to see who goes home. I suspect Karen and Bert will go next, and if not, in fourth place. BRING ON NEXT WEEK GUYS!!
