Amazing Race Canada S7 – Episode 3 Recap

I’m just an Aussie who loves Canadian reality TV…

PRIZE: A Chevy Blazer each, a trip for two around the world, $250,000 and the title of AMAZING RACE CANADA!

START LOCATION: Revelstoke, British Columbia
END LOCATION: Edmonton, Alberta

When 2 become 1… Detour <3

Are we ever leaving Canada? Teams race for the first flight to Edmonton, but there’s only two spots available! Dave/Irina and Aarthy/Thinesh, take a bow! Everyone else, get back in line! We saw our first ever on Amazing Race blind Double One-Way. A U-Turn with a twist, teams who come across it can force any other team to complete one Detour of their choice; no switching allowed. Definitely brings another level of strategy, playing on teams weaknesses. If you watch closely at the Roadblock, as the day went on, I think the Japanese chick was getting tired and started speaking in English by the end of it. #PleaseTryAgain

Team #1 – Dave & Irina

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Irina
DETOUR: Elevate
PLACINGS: 1st, 2nd, 1st (Avg 1.3)

Congratulations Dave and Irina, you’re officially the most annoying team on the Amazing Race Canada! Not hard really. Luckily for them, they back up their statements… Leaving the peasants in a trail of dust. In a glimpse of hope, the couple give the Express Pass to Anthony and James, as a thank you for helping them at the last Detour. I didn’t see that coming! They also decide not to One-Way anyone, and when you’re that ahead (up to 3 hours I think) you really don’t have to. And then they start talking rubbish again. Dave shutting down Irina’s suggestion that they should be looking for a Jon Monty bobblehead (not John Cena!!). They’re definitely the team to beat this season, but I can’t help but hope they go home in a shock elimination. Oh, and they won a trip to Morocco; guessing you haven’t been there Irina?

Team #2 – Aarthy & Thinesh

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Thinesh
DETOUR: Elevate
PLACINGS: 7th, 1st, 2nd (Avg 3.3)

#truth

The first two teams are the same teams who made the first flight to Edmonton, so it really was Aarthy and Thinesh’s race to lose. Another strong leg by the couple, with some sassy comments to boot! Aarthy said what we are ALL thinking… Dave and Irina ARE annoying. Thank you, girl!! As part of this leg Racers were given a Galaxy Watch and whoever took the least steps would win $5000… Thinesh’s overthought plan to take the biggest steps possible may have cost them 1st place and the extra cashola! There wasn’t much to it in the end, with the dating couple only minutes to be 2nd. This team is one to watch in coming weeks. And are suddenly in contention to be my hot favourite!

Team #3 – Anthony & James

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Anthony
DETOUR: Elevate
PLACINGS: 6th, 6th, 3rd (Avg 5.0)

Slow and steady wins the race, right!? Congrats guys, you finally got that 3rd place! 😛 All jokes aside, Anthony and James really came away with a win this leg, gaining an Express Pass and smashing out the tasks. They must have gotten sick of coming 6th! The rainbow skirts to honour indigenous women was a lovely touch, and they came out to play today, becoming a real dark horse to win this Race. Anthony and James also raced in their home town so win, win all around! The funniest part of the episode was when Anthony pointed out if the topless Wayne Gretzky poster was Jon.

OMG. Absolute gold. I don’t know how James didn’t piss himself laughing. Clearly Anthony was not paying attention 😛 The boys are still a maybe on my Top 3, probably a Top 5 right now!

Team #4 – Lauren & Joanne

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Lauren
DETOUR: Elevate
PLACINGS: 4th, 8th, 4th (Avg 5.3)

#TeamRegina is back baby! After a nonsense leg coming 8th, the sisters jumped right back on track and ran their hearts out in Edmonton (that would’ve worked better for Sarah and Sam). Lauren and Joanne are in it to win it, and they proved it by being the first team to use the Double One-Way! Being middle of the pack can be a dangerous spot, so what better way to get ahead by bringing another back of the pack team down?! Also, after Lauren shut Joanne down about blabbing they used the One-Way, Monty put them on the spot about using it. Would Lauren have lied if it were Trish and Amy next to them on the mat? Ooh. They also found bobblehead Jon really quickly and stepped their way to $5000! Joanne, I hope you bought a new laptop with it!

Wait, you went on this show to make friends?!

Team #5 – Sarah & Sam

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Sarah
DETOUR: Elevate
PLACINGS: 2nd, 4th, 5th (Avg 3.7)

Gah, I hope this is the lowest Sarah and Sam will place! Things are getting a bit touch and go there, and who knew bloody flowers could hold you back?! It was unfortunate the Team Olympia just missed out on the first flight to Edmonton and then arriving at the One-Way after Lauren and Joanne! They did the right thing playing it, and when it’s blind, why not!? As much as I like Sean and Gilles, they are a typically slower team, so I’d play the One-Way on them too. The Detour really killed teams this leg, and the Olympians were the last to complete Elevate ensuring they placed higher than those teams who did Celebrate. I still believe this team has what it takes to win this thing though. A bit worried about next week’s episode!! :O

Team #6 – Meaghan & Marie

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Meaghan
DETOUR: Celebrate
PLACINGS: 3rd, 5th, 6th (Avg 4.7)

DO IT FOR JONESY! The twinnies are getting more adorable each week, but like the Olympians their placings are getting worse :O And hey they chose the Celebrate Detour which seemed to take longer than Elevate, but they had soo much fun doing it! In the end you gotta get those experiences in 😀 The girls always seem to get stuck on the random tasks on a leg, this time finding Monty’s bobblehead. I still think they’re a Top 5 team, but with the rise of Anthony and James they better lift their game!

Twinnines got da moves!

Team #7 – Trish & Amy

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Amy
DETOUR: Celebrate (One-Way’d by Lauren & Joanne)
PLACINGS: 5th, 7th, 7th (Avg 6.3)

Officially a back of the pack team. Being One-Way’d didn’t help, and neither was doing the one Detour Amy was dreading. It was pretty bloody amazing to see Amy tackle the Celebrate dance/singalong head on with a hearing impairment! Amazing Race Canada gave us Lowell a few seasons ago who raced blind. I give many kudos to Amy for not giving up. It definitely wouldn’t have been easy. Unfortunately, things are looking pretty grim for the mummas and unless something drastically changes next week I see them being eliminated, or coming last (being saved by a non-elimination leg). Sorry ladies! 🙁

Team #8 – Gilles & Sean

ROADBLOCK: Recreate a Delicate Arrangement – Gilles
DETOUR: Celebrate (One-Way’d by Sarah & Sam)
PLACINGS: 9th, 3rd, 8th (Avg 6.7)

IT WAS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!! Sean’s face when they see they’ve been One-Way’d… Sean’s face when they’ve been given the Celebrate Detour. I FEEL YOU, DUDE!!! What a disaster of a twist for them. And after such a high last week, it was really sad to see them go. It’s tough arriving last at these U-Turn/One-Way mats as you pretty much know your name’s gonna be on there. You could see the frustration on Sean’s face during the Detour and as someone who also sucks at choreography I don’t blame him. Gilles completed their final Roadblock doing a nice job arranging flowers and he made a good comment at the end about WHAT IS AGE?! Gilles, you killed it out there! Congrats Sean and Gilles, they should be super proud of what they achieved ^_^

Lastly…

Doesn’t look like Monty, right?! :/
