Amazing Race Canada S7 – Episode 4 Recap

I’m just an Aussie who loves Canadian reality TV…

PRIZE: A Chevy Blazer each, a trip for two around the world, $250,000 and the title of AMAZING RACE CANADA!

START LOCATION: Edmonton, Alberta
END LOCATION: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

This will be a short recap as I’m off on a roadtrip this week! Was this not the coldest leg we’ve had in a while? -21 degrees? NO THANK YOU! Us Aussie struggle with 12 degree weather. I also had to Google Yellowknife and damn it’s so far north. This week we saw some epic ice diving, TWO Express Passes used and a penalty on a non-elimination leg O_O

Team #1 – Aarthy & Thinesh

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Thinesh
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Aarthy
PLACINGS: 7th, 1st, 2nd, 1st (Avg 2.8)

This couple is on FIIIIREE!!! Aarthy and Thinesh kept their shit together and have risen to the top yet again. Sure, Aarthy faced her worst nightmare (mine too bae, mine too) of diving into icy water, but I am soo proud of her for not giving up and saving their Express Pass! Thinesh was again in his element at the diamond Roadblock and Maps task. It was almost the perfect leg in freezing cold weather. Aarthy’s sassiness toward Dave and Irina continued, which I love, but it’s Thinesh who keeps this team cool, calm and collected. They make a great balanced team and I’m officially going to put them in my Top 3!! For coming first they also won a trip to Dublin, Ireland (Irina, have you been there?) and maybe Thinesh can put a ring on it there 😉

Team #2 – Meaghan & Marie

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Marie
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Meaghan
PLACINGS: 3rd, 5th, 6th, 2nd (Avg 4.0)

ALL HAIL THE TWINNINES! Team #2 baby! The twins had their best leg yet. It was pretty funny when they mentioned how they struggle towards the end of legs, and same thing happened this time… But, consistency is key, right?! 😛 Marie was bumpuzzled at the diamond Roadblock, which sucked as they got there first! Thankfully, Meaghan was able to smash out the ice dive and they both know what Longitude and Latitude means on maps. PHEW!! The girls completed the last task in record time to ensure they reached the Pit Stop way ahead of Dave and Irina’s penalty. Definitely in the race for Top 3 now! <3

They’re like twinnie Energizer bunnies!

Team #3 – Dave & Irina

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Dave
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Express Passed
PLACINGS: 1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd (Avg 1.8)

When you thought they couldn’t get more annoying. *cough* Cab stealers *cough* Although, you can blame the cab drivers just as much! What’s just as annoying was that I felt it was a real lazy leg by the couple. It was laughable when Irina said she COULD have done the ice dive, but just didn’t want to. Sure. Using an Express Pass AND a penalty on a foreseeable non-elimination leg is wasteful in my eyes. It would’ve been interesting to see where they’d place had they completed the Maps task. Nevertheless, Dave and Irina are still a formidable team and shouldn’t be counted out at all.

What standing in -20* weather for 2 hours looks like!

Team #4 – Sarah & Sam

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Sam
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Sarah
PLACINGS: 2nd, 4th, 5th, 4th (Avg 3.8)

GEOLOGISTS, ROCK! Much pun intended 😉 Team Olympia are on their way back up, peeps!! Sam kept his cool scoping out diamonds, while Sarah faced her fear of doing anything cold… She was NOT liking the leg heading to -20 degree temps, and neither would I!! Girl smashed it out though, and it’s OK to have a scare cry, totally fine. 😉 It’s so hard to choose your Roadblocks wisely with the titles they give ha! What the hell was with their $250 cab charge though?! :O Was their driver doing burnouts waiting for them?! Fortunately there are some generous people out in the big world. Sam and Sarah still have a lot of Race left in them and I’m waiting for them to get their first “Team #1” from Monty! <3

Geologists had more airtime than half the teams!

Team #5 – Lauren & Joanne

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Lauren
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Joanne
PLACINGS: 4th, 8th, 4th, 5th (Avg 5.3)

Don’t you hate it when you don’t have cab drivers who care about The Amazing Race Canada?! Hello, you get more airtime for sticking around. Poor #TeamRegina were stranded after the first task and again were left in last place. But all is OK, Lauren has 20/20 vision! Diamonds? Pfft, no problem. And Joanne who’s a swimmer with the best rainbow mittens is like, ice cold water? No problem! Maps, such a breeze. I reckon they would’ve placed higher than Dave and Irina in other circumstances! Let’s go girls, onwards (back) to BC!

Lauren, you need to lift your facials game!

Team #6 – Anthony & James

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Express Passed
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Anthony
PLACINGS: 6th, 6th, 3rd, 6th (Avg 5.3)

Boys, oh boys. Is 6 your lucky number? A third time in 6th and unfortunately I don’t see things getting better for them. I was a little unsure on how Anthony and James would go on the Race, and I don’t really see them bouncing back. If they do, I’ll be thrilled! James was like a diamond in the rough at the Roadblock and was struggling badly. I’m not sure what the problem was or if he read what he had to do properly, but I wish he hadn’t of used the Express Pass. I guess it saves them from doing a Speed Bump next week, but otherwise it’s a real bummer! It was cute seeing James’ kiddy photos ice-fishing; these are things we just don’t see in Australia so I loved it. I think James and Anthony will be out in the next few weeks. 🙁

Team #7 – Trish & Amy

ROADBLOCK 1: Find the Diamonds in the Rough – Trish
ROADBLOCK 2: Glacial Dip – Amy
PLACINGS: 5th, 7th, 7th, 7th (Avg 6.5)

It’s taken a few legs, but Trish and Amy have really grown on me. What strong women! <3 They also had major cab problems, from other teams stealing theirs, and having dodgy drivers running away. Things just didn’t go right on that front. It really did put them behind for a lot of the leg. It was hilarious seeing Amy do the ice dive Roadblock and without her hearing aid she kinda just went in blind! I’m sure her family are super proud of her what she’s been able to accomplish so far! On the flipside, I totally see the ladies going home next week. With a Speed Bump ahead I think it’ll be the nail in the coffin for them, sadly <3
