Amazing Race Canada S7 – Episode 5 Recap

I’m just an Aussie who loves Canadian reality TV…

PRIZE: A Chevy Blazer each, a trip for two around the world, $250,000 and the title of AMAZING RACE CANADA!

START LOCATION: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
END LOCATION: Nanaimo, Alberta

I’m currently in the middle of the Aussie Outback, so let’s hope this posts! This week on TARC we saw something dodgier than my internet connection, and it starts with Dave and ends with Irina. Leg 5 had possibly the hardest task we’ve seen on The Amazing Race, some good ol’ Canadian camaraderie and the P word; PENALTIES!

Team #1 – Sarah & Sam

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Sarah
PLACINGS: 2nd, 4th, 5th, 4th, 1st (Avg 3.2)

I’ve been waiting for this moment since the first ep! Congrats Sam and Sarah for your first “Team #1” 😀 After saying hi to a few 4th and 5ths the Olympians bounced back with a vengeance from their ‘rocky’ leg in Yellowknife. It was great to see Sam face his fear of heights, albeit having to memorise recipe items so he really had no choice. The double team jump (tandem and bungee) was a great task for both team mates to complete; fun for everyone! I have also dubbed Sarah and Sam the Clam Whisperers. Because HOW ON EARTH did they find all those clams so quickly?!? I swear no one found any Butter Clams. They must’ve hit the right mud patch 😉 #TeamOlympia are sticking around for the long haul! Also, guys, please take me with you to Machu Picchu!! <3

What’s better? TARC first place or a Gold Medal?!

Team #2 – Aarthy & Thinesh

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Aarthy
PLACINGS: 7th, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd (Avg 2.6)

Umm, how amazing is Aarthy? And also Thinesh, but Aarthy is the more vocal one haha. From her hilarious one-liners to ensuring all the teams worked together so Dave and Irina get eliminated. This week it really was all about team work for the proud Sri Lankan couple, as they wouldn’t have come 2nd if it weren’t for Anthony and James, and vice versa. In this leg I’m putting them ahead on my list as they have a higher overall average (next week I’m banking on another #1, keep on trend ;)) The clams really got them unstuck and they were there for HOURS (almost 5!!). What the actual fuck?! Anywhos, I’m so proud of them for digging deep (literally) and saving their Express Pass. They also saved their #1 baes Anthony and James from elimination in doing so. Aarthy and Thinesh are super competitive and have what it takes to bring Dave & Irina down, and win this thing!

Team #2 – Anthony & James

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – James
PLACINGS: 6th, 6th, 3rd, 6th, 2nd (Avg 4.6)

Goats on Roof! *bows down* James, you are a champion! One question though, do teams have to at least attempt a Roadblock before they can finish it? And as it was Anthony’s Roadblock to complete is it fair that James came up with the answer? But technically they hadn’t begun the Roadblock… I find this a very grey area, and this episode really opened up a can of worms with what can go wrong with tasks and penalties and dodging TARC rules! Nevertheless, the boys used Dora’s clues and figured it out. It was actually genius! No penalties were taken by the boys, and with Aarthy and Thinesh’s help at the Clam Bake, they were able to help out their friends in return. They’ve definitely proved me wrong and I reckon they are a real dark horse to win the comp now!

Team #4 – Trish & Amy

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Trish
PLACINGS: 5th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 4th (Avg 6.0)

Hahaha mums being mums with their recipes. When the tandem/bungee task was also to memorise these Nanaimo bars (never heard of them before) and the mums HAD MADE THEM BEFORE, I was like “of course”! What legends. Pfft, they didn’t even need to read the recipe. This task was a breeze which found them in first place for the first time and they completed the Speed Bump in no time. Then came the clams. After agreeing to work with the other couples to get Dave and Irina out, they decided to bolt and take a Penalty (after seeing Lauren and Joanne do so). At this point in time, I don’t blame them as there were still 3 teams clamming. It ended up working in their favour, especially when Trish completed the Roadblock so quickly. Unfortunately, and total rookie mistake, Trish sat next to Dave (WHY?!) to work on her board. And low and behold, who steals her work?! ARGH, TRISH! Never leave that shiz lying around, you never know what dodgy bastards are lurking. Thankfully, the mums finished the leg ahead and scored their best placing yet! I still see them going next week…

Team #5 – Dave & Irina

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Dave
PLACINGS: 1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 5th (Avg 2.4)

Clever? Or just plain dodgy? Take your pick! But it’s not so smart having EVERY OTHER TEAM hate you. Like really, I know you’re not there to make friends, but it pays to be decent human beings once in a while. Anywhos… Dave seems to be doing everything for the pair, where Irina is happy to sit back and watch hubby do the dirty work. And for reals, in the Clam task she just stood there. Didn’t even touch the shovel. And then Dave also chose to do the Roadblock, because Irina said it might be hard work. We’ve only seen her arrange flowers so far! Sigh. The Roadblock showed us Dave’s true colours when he firstly tried to tee up with Sarah and Lauren, then Trish who he barely even spoke to prior that moment! There’s been a lot of speculation amongst fans on whether he ‘cheated’ when he photographed Trish’s board. There have been teams who’ve copied off others before, but to TAKE someone elses work?! That is just RUBBISH. Dude, have some decency and at least sneak peek and write it on your own damn board to photograph! Ugh, this team infuriates me and I’ve written too much about them. HA! Why are there no penalties for taking too many penalties…? I bet they make finals just to spite us all! 😛

Team #6 – Lauren & Joanne

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Lauren
PLACINGS: 4th, 8th, 4th, 5th, 6th (Avg 5.4)

My gals from Regina are skating on thin ice :O They just HAD to be the team who got lost, then stuck in traffic due to a car accident O_O So. Convenient. After finally making it to the clam bake they realised they were last and were told D&I had taken a Penalty. They straightaway thought hell yeah let’s do that too! I’m sure the other teams were a bit pissed (I probably would be hahaha), but when you’re in that position and see everyone else struggling you take the punt! Scary though, it almost didn’t pay off. Lucky for them the Twinnies had an even worse leg. But guess what, we’re off to their home province of Saskatchewan next week, woo!

Team #7 – Meaghan & Marie

ROADBLOCK: Spelunking Search – Marie
PLACINGS: 3rd, 5th, 6th, 2nd, 7th (Avg 4.6)

*wails in a corner* Oh twinnies, I feel so awful for them. They started the leg sharing a small plane with Dave and Irina, and that pretty much set the scene for the rest of the leg. Nothing went right for them other than eating Nanaimo Bars. They got stuck on the clams and took a very risky Penalty (listen to Aarthy even telling them that). They should have left at the same time as the other 3 penalty teams. Or in hindsight, stuck with the clams! Sigh. It was just way too late. Everyone had finished the Roadblock before Marie could say GOAT! The twins could only bank on the two teams still clamming to take a Penalty really. It was so sad when she saw Aarthy/Thinesh and Anthony/James arrive and leave the Roadblock in the space of 30 seconds! O_O AND that they obviously couldn’t find her to tell her the answer 🙁 If only it was a non-elimination leg this week… Farewell Twinnies, you’re still #1 in my eyes 😉

#DIFJ. And they did <3
