The Amazing Race S30 – Episode 2 Recap – Don’t Drop the Frites!

Chuck it up, lady!! Get it ALL out!

PRIZE: A trip for two around the world, $1,000,000, and the title of TAR!

START LOCATION: Reykjavík, Iceland.
END LOCATION: Antwerp, Belgium.

Hello, Belgium!I was a bit disappointed the teams weren’t actually given any chocolate at the chocolate shop. How stingey! But at least they got their fair share of French Fries… :O And a total shock, and probably the most important part of the episode… Where was Phil’s opening theme credit?! That’s effed up, mate!

Team #1 – Cody & Jessica

DETOUR: Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Jessica
AVERAGE PLACING: 1.5

Now, this is the team to beat! Cody and Jessica really should have been number one last week if it weren’t for a slight misunderstanding; Cody, listen to your woman! Team Big Brother didn’t really do much wrong this week, albeit a tiny mishap at the Detour, but there’s not really much else I could fault! Jessica raced up that SkyClimb like a badass mofo and Cody blitzed the Head-to-Head course against Cedric giving them a very well-earned first place. They also got to add $5000 to their future prize money! I never thought I’d say this, but “Go, Big Brother!!”.

Eat. Fries. Love.

Team #2 – Cedric & Shawn

DETOUR: Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Cedric
AVERAGE PLACING: 5.5

After a slow start on the first leg and incurring a penalty, Slam Dunk have found their way to the top of the ladder! Even so, I am still not convinced they go far in the Race. Or maybe this is my poor excuse to find a team to NOT root for. Haha. The NBA stars had a good lead finishing the Detour first, but failed to beat Team BB in the first ever Head-to-Head. Nevertheless, Shawn had no problem beating Henry giving the dudes a deserved second. Definitely a step-up from last leg, I just have a feeling these guy’s luck will run out soon…

I have watched this scene about 10 times and have no idea what Cedric is saying. Something about seasoning?!

Team #3 – Kristi & Jen

DETOUR: Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Kristi
AVERAGE PLACING: 2.0

OMG. I was almost freaking out at the start of the episode at a potential medevac of Kristi after she felt the side affects of last week’s “Black Death” potion. But phew, she was all set to go. I can’t see Kristi quitting anyway! Team Extreme showed us their first struggle on the Race when they got lost alongside Goat Yoga and the Twinnie Firies, but they totally bounced back at the printing Detour when they figured all they have to do is read the printed words backwards! Did any other team realise this? Probably not, coz they are kick ass! At the Head-to-Head you just knew Kristi was gonna smoke the course and poor Evan struggled to keep up with her. Team Extreme finish keep their reputation as one of the top teams so far. Such a shame they couldn’t keep up with Team BB this round to match averages!

Kristi bossing it up the SkyClimb.

Team #4 – Trevor & Chris

DETOUR: Diamond Glint
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Chris
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.0

Umm, did we even see Well Strung this episode?? Dear CBS, I need to see my Well Strung gay hotties on my screen! Stop depriving us me! All I remember is the guys at the Diamond appraisal place and that’s it. It’s probably because these guys are go, go, go and no fuss that they came in fourth again! Not much to add from last week, but I expect these guys to make it to the top 5.

Team #5 – Alex & Conor

DETOUR: Diamond Glint
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Alex
AVERAGE PLACING: 5.0

Now, at first I was surprised the boys chose the Diamond Detour, then realised the Old Print Detour dealt with letters and we all know how Conor went last week in the Iceland Detour… Oops. Along with Well Strung, we didn’t see too much of the Indies, but they’re overall a strong team and I’m guessing they’ll continue to place in the top half of the Racers. They have struggled in the more brainy tasks though, and there seem to be more of these this season than before. We’ll see how they go! 🙂

FRY-FIVE, Indies!!

Team #6 – Lucas & Brittany

DETOUR: Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Lucas
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.5

Have I mentioned how much I love this team? Initially, I thought they’d be the annoying whingey team, looking at you Brittany (sorry!), but OMG they are super cool and hilarious; I honestly can’t wait to see Lucas propose 😛 Last week, Brittany gave us a creepy scene threatening Lucas if he ever does her wrong; this week she gives us Pineapples and the Macarena! Please don’t leave anytime soon! A good leg by team Baywatch and finish with Lucas beating poor Henry at the Head-to-Head. Looking forward to seeing more of this team. I’m just hoping they can end in a higher spot, otherwise they’ll be gone in a few weeks :O

EYYYY MACARENA, AH HAI!

Team #7 – Joey & Tim

DETOUR: Diamond Glint
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Joey
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.5

Oh Joey, sweet Joey. He really isn’t all that fit is he. The life of a competitive eater, haha. Nevertheless, Tim has been a great partner and competitor, helping egg on Joey when he needs it most. Team Chomp spent a long time on the Diamond Detour, but this didn’t hurt them too much as they had an easy win over Evan at the Head-to-Head. Not the strongest of teams, but definitely not the weakest, I expect these guys to hang around for a while yet! And two Pit Stops in a row with both greeters unimpressed, and a little confused, over Joey’s competitive eating achievements. Hahaha.

No, she doesn’t wanna go out with you, Joey.

Team #8 – Henry & Evan

DETOUR: Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Evan
AVERAGE PLACING: 5.5

Seven; the amount of attempts Team Yale took to win the Head-to-Head. French Fries; the food Team Yale now most hate. Determination; something these badass debaters have a tonne of! Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down… Things were looking very grim for the Yale wizards at the Head-to-Head and I was pretty worried for them as I was trying to think of a team they could potentially beat! Step right up, Goat Yoga! I actually think Sarah could have beaten Henry, but we’ll never know… The poor couple kept hitting that damn same corner, which was actually getting really frustrating, until Evan yelled out at Henry to “watch THAT corner!!”. Other than this huge hiccup, Yale didn’t really do much wrong at all. I don’t think coming in last will be an ongoing occurrence. Expect this team to bounce back next week!

Every damn time…

Team #9 – Eric & Daniel

DETOUR: Diamond Glint, after failed Old Print
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – Eric
AVERAGE PLACING: 8.5

Wow, these guys are QUIET AF! The nice Twinnie Firies were lost with the Goats early on, and struggled badly at the Old Print Detour. So much so that they were the only team to switch Detours. Seems like Eric and Daniel took their own sweet time spending a couple hours at each Detour, eventually making it to the Head-to-Head. There wasn’t much competition and although April put up a good fight, Daniel’s strength held out for the Twinnies putting them in ninth place. The boys seem uber likeable, and not as much a threat than I initially though. They have a lot to make up for next leg and I’m hoping they can make a comeback just like Slam Dunk did!

Team #10 – April & Sarah

DETOUR: Diamond Glint
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to get high? – April
AVERAGE PLACING: 10.0

Aww man, I am so devo we’ve lost Goat Yoga!! Also, it’s amazing the girls are even friends anymore after the Race. Yikes! I read an exit interview with the girls and maybe she’s just naturally like that, but it seemed like Sarah just wanted April to do everything so she wouldn’t be to blame if things failed. I was confused as to why April took part in the Head-to-Head and even more-so when she revealed that Sarah has more upper-body strength because she does cross-fit?! Hmm. I’m just calling it how I see it. At the start of the episode they did acknowledge they had communication problems though. It’s a funny friendship for sure, but still a friendship, and the ladies still run their Goat Yoga business, so that’s a positive!

April: It wasn’t me!

I just wish they could’ve beat the Twinnies at the end (sorry Twinnies!), because they brought such a great, weird energy to the Race and I’ll miss that. My hubby on the other hand are happy with their elimination, haha. I’ll miss you, Goat Yoga!

And when things couldn’t get more embarrassing, you become the first team to be eliminated as junk food… Damn.
