The Amazing Race S30 – Episode 3 Recap – #GnomeGate!

Even Cody can’t keep Jessica away from the pussies…

PRIZE: A trip for two around the world, $1,000,000, and the title of TAR!

START LOCATION: Antwerp, Belgium.
END LOCATION: Tangier, Morocco.

No Goat Yoga, but Brittany gets gnomed (not a legit word) by Jessica! Don’t ya just love the drama The Amazing Race tries to conjure up? This week we headed to Morocco where teams tested their French and Spanish on locals, and Evan and Cody showed off their Arabic! We also found out the NBA stars hate fish, and got to see where Jason Bourne ran atop the buildings in his self-titled films. But how did the teams go??

Team #1 – Henry & Evan

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Henry
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.0

All hail Team Yale!! The nerds are back in action and I’m excited. I was a little worried there when Phil said “You’re team number one”, then started talking to the other teams who reached the mat seconds after. But it’s OK, the wizards won a trip to Zurich, SPAH included. As predicted, Team Yale bounced back this week with flying colours. Henry may have stuck with the pack on the Roadblock, but they finished the Detour in the nick of time. The nerds themselves told Phil that they are proving they have both the mental and physical chops to win this game and I actually believe them. Let’s just hope they don’t face another Head-to-Head like last week.

Team #2 – Alex & Conor

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Conor
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.0

All I can remember of these guys in episode 3 was them wearing the belly dancing outfits and the grandpa dance moves… HAHAHA. Sorry guys! It was kinda cute though.

I dig the pointy finger moves.

After two weeks finishing fifth, the Indies finally hit a high coming second and I think they are doing well to set them up for a finals berth. They’re kind of under the radar and not showing off as too much of a threat at the moment; also proven this leg when they finished the Fish Stack last. The other teams should watch out; the Indies will run you down if you don’t watch out!

Team #3 – Kristi & Jen

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Jen
AVERAGE PLACING: 2.3

Fact #1, Jen makes a great fish face.

Fact #2, these women are naturally born badasses (well I’m sure of it). After getting a dodgy taxi-driver who drops them off in a remote location, far, far away from all the other teams stacking fish, the girls make a massive comeback. Not only arriving at the fishy dock by foot as the last team, but finishing ahead of the Indies! From here on Team Extreme didn’t have many hiccups, with Jen finishing the Roadblock second and ultimately reaching the Pit Stop in a placing that keeps their average up. I’m SO glad they thought of their stats on this race!!

Team #4 – Trevor & Chris

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Chris
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.0

I’m going to keep saying it, but I LOVE THESE GUYS! Unfortunately, they do remind me of London and Logan from last season in the way of edits. There, but not really there, and we do catch glimpses of them. And I appreciate moments like this.

Shimmy, shimmy, Trevor!

But I just don’t see them winning this game. Also, amazingly this is the third time they’ve come fourth… Man, they must be so over it by now! Just need to bump one team outta the way. Another thing, like London and Logan, it’s come to my attention that Well Strung do weekly Amazing Race recaps on YouTube. Alert, alert! No winner would do this right?! It does make me think they make it deep into the Race though. Good one boys, trying to trick us into you winning 😉 Love them, but expect their time to be up closer to the end of the season.

Team #5 – Cody & Jessica

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Jessica
AVERAGE PLACING: 2.7

Dayum, Team BB’s overall stats dropped this week with this fifth place finish and they’ll need to stay in the Top 3 if they want to keep up with Team Extreme! Nevertheless, it wasn’t a terrible leg overall for them as everyone struggled on the Roadblock. Jessica teamed up with some other Racers so was always going to be in the leading pack. I have to say, not a bad pair from a show like Big Brother. Cody said some sweet words about his new love and I totally bet there are plenty of haters waiting to tear them down. And maybe I was one of them initially not anymore! I still expect Team BB to last the distance, in the Race and hopefully on the outside! And just to address the elephant in the room, DO I THINK Jessica really sabotaged Brittany? Scroll down to Ocean Rescue to find out my thoughts.

Nah mate, don’t worry, I speak Aladdin!!

Team #6 – Joey & Tim

DETOUR: Shake It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Tim
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.3

Jeez, Team Chomp look so strong and yet are so weak at the same time. The foodie dudes are so much fun to watch, but then it comes to the nitty gritty of the game, they’ve definitely struggled. Not paying attention, they could easily be ahead of the others if they stuck to their guns! This leg they should have been first to the Prince of Gnomes guy, then they totally overshot the Pit Stop because of some random Moroccan band playing… Sigh. I do think Chomp have more legs in them though, but they definitely need to lift their game. I’m also hopeful for a food challenge very soon; perfect in an upcoming Asian country, right?!

My favourite <3

Team #7 – Eric & Daniel

DETOUR: Drop It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Eric (? I can’t tell!)
AVERAGE PLACING: 8.0

I’m sorry to say, but the Twinny Firies are a bit of a yawn to watch. They are hardly shown and when they are they make you think “who are they?!” I had high hopes for the Firies, but they have definitely been that lacklustre team who aren’t given much airtime… Which means where do they end up? Just going by what we’ve seen it looks like they will be eliminated pretty soon. They haven’t been a strong force in the season and the only challenge they’ve dominated was the Head-to-Head, which was against Goat Yoga of all teams. Sorry, Firies. 🙁

Team #8 – Lucas & Brittany

DETOUR: Drop It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Brittany
AVERAGE PLACING: 7.0

Such a weirdo. 🙂

From what we saw, Team Baywatch believe they were screwed over by Team BB by way of Jessica and #GnomeGate. I can see why Brittany thought Jessica sabotaged her on purpose, but the evidence doesn’t show it.

It all started when Jessica offered to hold Brittany’s gnome (no, that is not a sexual innuendo… this time).

Firstly, Jessica is watching Brittany fumble with the phone while holding her gnome and is probably thinking “omg, wtf, stop taking so long”, so offers to hold her gnome. In the process, Jessica sets it down so she can use the phone, while Brittany runs off. Jessica is focused on her own sexy gnome and clue and doesn’t bother to tell Brittany she forgot hers! Because you know what? Brittany is already long gone. Should it matter to Jessica to waste her time to find Brittany among the confusing streets of Morocco? No. Is this an honest Race? No. I don’t believe Jessica took her gnome out of malice; it was an initial helping hand which turned out to be misconstrued. If it were a legit sabotage, I would have thrown that gnome in the garbage. Obviously, Jessica isn’t a bitch like me.

Secondly, the scenes where Brittany was yelling for Jessica to slow down because she thinks she’s stolen her gnome… Pretty sure that was edited to create drama. They were probably on opposite sides of town by then. Haha! Anyway, watching that just made me cringe. But it’s OK, Brittany found him and now her and Lucas live happily with their newly adopted baby gnome, Jessie. Aww. Lucas better damn propose!

Last thing, they are crazy for completing the physical Detour after that; BEASTING IT!

Team #9 – Cedric & Shawn

DETOUR: Drop It Off
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to rock the Kasbah? – Cedric
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.7

Ahh, team Slam Dunk. You lucky mofos!! The first non-elimination leg of the season and they couldn’t save my Goat Yoga 😛 Alas, the NBA stars get another chance and after looking at a shot for playoffs last week they’ve rebounded back to the bottom of the ladder. Where did they go wrong? Choosing Cedric to complete the Roadblock. He’s older and a little slower, and I don’t think we’ve seen many people take on a Roadblock with their back pack still on! Bad move. For the most part though, Cedric did well to follow the zipline and didn’t team up with other Racers to finish. The last telephone booth did foul him out though putting him behind. To make matters worse, as Cedric is already hella exhausted, they choose to do the more physical Detour! This definitely set them back further, causing them to make the Pit Stop in last place. We’ll see how they go next week, but I’m still predicting their time runs out in the next two legs.
