The Amazing Race S30 – Episode 4 & 5 Recap – A Les Baux Engagement!

Did someone say Les Baux chateau?

PRIZE: A trip for two around the world, some mini prizes (SPAH included), $1,000,000, and the title of TAR!

START LOCATION: Tangier, Morocco.
MIDDLE LOCATION: Nice, France
END LOCATION: Les Baux, France

This week we headed to France in a double banger! We finally see some new teams at the top of the totem pole and lose some fan favourites. We also see the Twinny Firies speak for more than 30 seconds, Racers breaking wind and witness a beautiful engagement at the Pit Stop. The Amazing Race S30 is producing the goods this season!

Team #1 – Lucas & Brittany

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Lucas | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Lucas
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.0 (Last Week 7.0)

WOO HOO!! OK so before we get to the surprise engagement, Team Baywatch almost got eliminated in the first leg of this episode! After having a strong start at the Roadblock where Lucas smashed out that sailing challenge, they fell short playing ball at the (utterly ridiculously placed) Head-to-Head. Lucas and Brittany lost to the Well Hung guys, Yale and the Firies before they beat Slam Dunk, finishing in 8th place! This is why I despise these Head-to-Head Pit Stop challenges… What’s the point in doing well at the previous Detours and Roadblocks? Not saying TAR is fair, but the tasks need to be reasonable and you should be rewarded if you complete them first. Anywhos, to the second episode and Lucas again smashes out the medieval Roadblock and after a little freakout at the Detour by Brittany, Baywatch make it to the Pit Stop in first place. From last to first? AWW YEAH THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ‘BOUT! Their prize is romantic honeymoon trip to Bali! Then, just as Lucas is about to grab the (massive) ring from his pocket, they get interrupted by other teams… Would have been nice if they were alone, but still, Lucas proposes and it’s so beautiful!! <3 Brittany is living a dream. Until she threatens Lucas again. Hahaha.

Team #2 – Kristi & Jen

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Kristi | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Kristi
AVERAGE PLACING: 2.4 (LW 2.3)

Week after week Team Extreme show us how bloody badass they are. I mean, they are beyond it right now and it’s hard not to see these ladies make the Final 3. It would actually be a travesty if they didn’t! :O Kristi completed both Roadblocks this double ep; showing us all that you can pick up sailing within minutes, and put a trébuchet (Google catapault thingo) together quicker than most of the guys! They came 3rd and 2nd over the 2 legs, and would have been first in the Head-to-Head if they had only beat the Indy boys! Team Extreme are ahead of the rest in terms of placings and with Team BB dropping the last few legs it’ll be interesting to see if the girls can keep it up. They also got to witness the TAR engagement first hand!

I love Jen’s facials.

Team #3 – Eric & Daniel

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Daniel | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Eric
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.8 (LW 8.0)

OMG OMG. The Twinnies are finally her!! OK, so they kinda suck at directions and most tasks so far (refer Daniel sailing away to Bermuda in the Detour LOL), and came 7th in the first leg this episode because they beat Baywatch at the Head-to-Head, and they also can’t drive manuals (shift sticks for you Mericans), BUT they showed their strengths in the practical challenges where they have to build items. I’m not sure how long these guys can last; we saw Slam Dunk have one good week then absolutely nosedive, so I’m weary about the Firies. In saying that I’m glad they got to experience the top and that we go to see them a bit more, despite them struggling with their car half the time. Hahaha. (I still tip them to go in the next two weeks).

Team #4 – Henry & Evan

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Evan | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Henry
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.4 (LW 4.0)

Dayum, did Evan have a rough leg or what?! Unable to manhandle the sailing Roadblock and also chipping her tooth. I mean, it definitely could have been much worse if she lost teeth completely. You couldn’t open your mouth at all in front of the camera without looking like a hobo!!

I did feel for her on that Roadblock, but she eventually figured it out. Team Yale only had to complete the Head-to-Head ONCE (phew) setting them up well for the next leg. In the second episode, Evan is the real winner. She gets her tooth fixed and gets to perve on her nerdy boyfriend building a trebuchet; she seemed pretty excited!! And to top it off, her reaction to Brittany and Lucas’ engagement was GIF-worthy!! She looked even more excited than Brittany herself! Hahaha. Even with the few hiccups they’ve had I think Yale still have plenty more legs in them.

No pressure, Hen!!!

Team #5 – Alex & Conor

DETOUR: 1. Bread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Alex | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Conor
AVERAGE PLACING: 3.6 (LW 4.0)

The Indies are racing up and down the TAR track like

Hahaha. Yeah, that only happened once, but still, that rowing is too funny! In all seriousness, these guys are all over the place, especially with Conor always seeming to struggle in the Roadblocks, but they are still a strong team and have placed in the top half each week. Both Conor and Alex move too fast and keep misreading their clues. Even so, they finally got their first #1 ($5000 prize each) showing they do have the chops for this Race. I just hope they don’t fall too far behind as they are fun to watch. Unfortunately in the latter half of the episode Conor messes up the medieval Roadblock (surprise, surprise) and Team Indy go from first to last, ouch! Luckily they make up some time with the Bulls and finish 5th; what they came in the first 2 legs! Right at home, boys!

Team #6 – Cody & Jessica

DETOUR: 1. Bread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Cody | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Cody
AVERAGE PLACING: 3.2 (LW 2.7)

Sorry guys, I can’t get over Cody saying Lesbo Chateau. Quote of the episode by far! Speaking of Cody, man he is SO patriotic and I can’t help but eye-roll; I swear he even brought up the constitution this episode!! And then choosing the Bull Detour because of the red, white and blue… LOL. In saying that, I am Team Big Brother all the way, baby! Still pinching myself saying it really. After coming 5th in leg 4, Cody and Jessica bounced back to 2nd… Then totally slipped back again in leg 6. What happened, guys?! They didn’t show too much, but it seems they got lost quite a bit this last leg? I totally thought they were up there doing the Detour with Team Extreme, but no 🙁 Team BB’s average dropped quite a lot this week, but even with their yoyo placings, I’m confident they make it to the Final 3. I also hope they do to shut all their Big Brother hater fans up!

Team #7 – Trevor & Chris

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Full of Bull
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Trevor | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Chris
AVERAGE PLACING: 4.8 (LW 4.0)

FINALLY, we get to enjoy Well Strung on our screens. Trevor and Chris are by far the most charismatic of all teams and it’s been disappointing we haven’t seen much of them until now. Chris calling Trevor the Martha Stewart and “Jacky of all trades” was hilarious, and Chris, the most built guy out there, struggling to put the trebuchet together… ahh I love gay men. HAHAHA. Maybe these guys are too ripped, coz they haven’t really dominated in many tasks and have been middle of the road so far. Coming 7th in the last leg didn’t help either, but I really hope they stick around for a while. I need my gays!! With not many teams left, I’m gonna make the call they leave in either 5th or 6th place. Keep bringing the goods while you last, boys!!

Self-explanatory.

Team #8 – Joey & Tim

DETOUR: 1. Tread | 2. Colourful
ROADBLOCK:
1. Who’s ready to break wind? Joey | 2. Who wants to go Medieval? Tim
AVERAGE PLACING: 6.2 (LW 6.3)

Who knew Joey was such a good sailor?? We’ll ignore the fact he capsized first though. Hehe.

When competitive eating falls through 😉

Chomp initially had a good run this ep, beating the hunky Strung dudes in the Head-to-Head and finishing 4th. It all came undone in the second leg where Tim struggled to build the trebuchet, where apparently Joey is the one who’s an expert with building IKEA furniture. It’s down to Tim v Conor and the foodie somehow pulls off a win! And then the mistake that cost them; choosing the Art Detour. They were right next to the Bulls and although it was more running, I think they definitely would have spent less time there than driving to the Art place and figuring that crazy puzzle out! Such a shame. Team Chomp had so much promise in the beginning and I’m so sad to see them go. They were definitely not the strongest team, but they had a really cool presence and we never got to see them put their real strength to the test, in a food challenge!!

#SADFACE

Team #9 – Cedric & Shawn

DETOUR: Tread
ROADBLOCK: Who’s ready to break wind? Cedric
AVERAGE PLACING: 7.3 (LW 6.7)

Honestly, I don’t have much to say, but told ya so… Lol. Team Slam Dunk were not a bad team at all, but with 3 legs finishing in last place, it’s hard to believe they were going far. They had one great leg coming in second and that was it for Slam Dunk. Cedric did amazingly in the challenges especially at his age, and I think Shawn should have completed that sailing Roadblock, but ol’ Cedric just couldn’t help himself! We also know why Cedric did so many Roadblocks – apparently he’s a TAR Superfan! Kudos to him. I also appreciated his dad jokes at the Tread Detour; rewatch for that 😉 Alas, they did arrive last at the Head-to-Head and were pipped at the post by Baywatch.

Slam Dunked.
