The Bachelorette Australia S7 – Week 1 Recap

Welcome to the first BICHELORETTE! Omgosh, who else has been screaming in delight over Brooke Blurton becoming the first ever LGBTQ+, indigenous woman to be cast in Bachelor(ette) history?! A bisexual Bachie with men and women vying to be their #1 in life; this is juicy stuff in the making. As someone who also identifies as bi this is both wonderful and terrifying to see on mainstream TV. We all know how heavily produced these shows are and I pray they’ll treat Brooke, who is representing the wider LGBTQ+ community, with respect. I’m hoping the show will diminish the stigma around bisexuality, and while it’s a big call (there’s already been so many rude, ignorant comments, but we all know Facebook sucks) I am hopeful there will be some justices.

In the premiere we finally met all 16 eligible bachelors and bachelorettes and while I would have LOVED to have seen a more diverse group of women cast (WHERE WERE THE PANT SUITS) I can’t complain with who we got. Let’s be honest, we’re only really invested win the women, especially Holly who is sweet AF and former bachie Jamie-Lee who is becoming a big threat to the others in the mansion. Then there’s Jess who is freaking badass (also coined by viewers as ‘the mean lesbian’) – I’ve checked with some gay friends in Adelaide and no one knows her, boo, and Carissa who has also made the bachie rounds being an ex of another bachelor-ette Megan Marx. The gay circles are quite small aren’t they xD

This week I rank my Sliding Seven to who will win Brooke’s heart! Of course I can only go on what’s been shown, but mainly who I want her to choose… Haha. Let me know if you agree or disagree!

1. HOLLY

27, NSW

Sweet, thoughtful, will potentially dance Brooke’s pants off. This chick is my fave woman so far. There’s just a real innocence between Holly and Brooke. Their NYE date was like seeing a picture with no caption. Perfection. There will be a first kiss soon. The tension is palpable…

2. DARVID

27, QLD

He’s charm, he’s grace, he’s the Prince you’d like to date. My fave male in the comp and easily a frontrunner to win Brooke’s heart. I didn’t mind him grabbing Brooke at the cocktail party, much to Emily’s dismay (girl, deal with it). There’s no surprise he was the first newbie to nab a kiss; this guy is smoooooth.

3. JAMIE-LEE

30, NSW

Loves a pash, not the jealous type πŸ‘€, will kill to win Brooke’s heart. Ooh, Jamie spiced up the cameras on episode 1 when she made a bold statement by kissing Brooke at the cocktail party. Unfortunately on the group date, realising there were actual threats in the mansion, she kinda fizzled in the background. I’m guessing she will be around for a while though, there’s definitely chemistry there.

4. CARISSA

30, QLD

Bi-eautiful, loves rainbows, girl next door vibes. Doesn’t she seem like a nice gal. The painting was cute. Brooke’s reaction was cute. But is it all a bit too cutesie?! In the promo we see Carissa upset about some contestants hooking up and I can’t wait to see it! I reckon she’ll stick around for a while.

5. JESS

30, SA

Brash, the first lesbian cast on the Bachelor franchise, we love to see it! Feisty and bold, Jess has quickly become the villain of the series after “stealing” Konrad’s love seat and making him cry. Yes, it was savage, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I’m not completely sure Brooke was really phased about sitting on the seat… If she was she could have said no! I’m into it.

6. KONRAD

31, VIC

Hot tradie, a romantic, isn’t afraid of lesbians getting in his way. In true bichelorette fashion, Konrad is pushed behind Jess on this list. Poor Konrad. I felt for him when his love seat was taken… You could see his soul being crushed. He seems genuine about winning Brooke’s heart though and I really like him! I hope he goes far.

7. KURT

29, NSW

Swimmer abs, boring white male, loveable. Kurt has had some fun, light-hearted confessionals and he grew on me in episode 2. He showed he’s not afraid to put himself out there when he’s definitely a fish out of water in this cast and has zero shot at winning. I love an underdog. Go Kurt!

WHO WE NEED MORE OF:
RITU
, 25, VIC – Girl, why have you been so quiet?! She is gorgeous and one of the POC who deserves more airtime. All we know is she’s bi, a filmmaker and we saw an unmemorable 10 second introduction to Brooke O_O
TAJE, 23, NSW – “Bi, 23, indigenous and a youth worker…” hmm, sounds a lot like Brooke! She looks like a real gem and a team player, helping Konrad with his love seat and just a down to Earth kinda gal. On the surface Taje seems a little to similar to Brooke, but hey, we need to see them on a date first to properly judge, haha.
